Wednesday was a pretty relaxing day. I will say I have not had a pillow since I have been here so I have been sleeping with my head on my blanket. My neck is kind of starting to ache. I told one of orderlies if he could look out for a pillow for me and charge me if needed (prison lol) but he told me he would and wouldn’t charge me. They have blue institutional pillows here but only around half the inmates have them. I guess they just float around the unit and get passed on when people leave since OKC is just a holdover temporary transit center because they do not issue them when you get in the door.

Everyone was really excited about June Teenth since it is now a federal holiday (Thank you Joe Biden!). This is probably Biden’s biggest accomplishment in office, but I digress. Everyone is excited because we are scheduled to get a holiday meal. We get our holiday meal for lunch and it was actually decent and quite a bit of food. We got one hot dog, one cheese burger, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, a slice of pecan pie (which was delicious!), and a blue bunny ice cream cone. We also had one packet of mayo, mustard, and ketchup. I played my part in the prison barter program and swapped my ice cream cone with another inmate for his pecan pie. I kind of had buyers remorse after everyone started eating the ice cream cones and raving about them. The piece of pecan pie was really big though and I knew I could save them for later while the ice cream would have had to be eaten then, which is why I did it. From my experience every time the BOP does a holiday meal, you get the meal for lunch but for dinner the kitchen staff takes the night off and you get a sack lunch for dinner basically chips and a bologna sandwich. Because of this I saved about half my food, and low and behold, at dinner we got bologna sack lunches.

Other than that I watched Ocean’s 11 in the evening and that was about it. The TV room situation is frustrating because there are three tv rooms. One is the Spanish tv room and the other two are supposed to be one for movies and one for sports/news. I am more of a sports/news guy but the sports/news tv room is consistently being kept on movies, so we basically have two movie tv rooms and often they are on the same damn movie which is beyond frustrating. Oh, I almost forgot we got a new institutional movie earlier that day, Michael Mann’s Collateral, a great movie in my opinion with Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox which came out a long time ago. Apparently some guys said they had Dune 2 a couple weeks ago before I got here which is frustrating because I watched Dune 1 on my prison tablet and I really enjoyed it. I have been really wanting to see Dune 2 since it recently came out in theatres but I figured I would wait to have to see it on the tablet in a year, but maybe I will be able to catch it as an institution movie now when I get to Montgomery.

Lastly, I found out my next destination is Atlanta and thankfully we will be flying and not taking a bus. This will be my first Con Air experience and needless to say I am ecstatic I am not taking the bus like I did here. Apparently they have two flights a week to Atlanta (Wednesdays and Fridays), and the Wednesday flight will be Thursday because of the holiday so I could be on the one tomorrow or Friday but most likely I think it will be next week. Atlanta used to be a USP, and then transitioned to a medium security, and then most recently transitioned to a low security prison, but Atlanta also has a holdover for transfers in the southeast region. Again, why I didn’t at least go directly from Mississippi to Atlanta before Montgomery I do not know. I guess the BOP wanted us to get the full experience.
