Thursday August 1, 2024 – Day 47 in Transit
I am still kicking it in Atlanta. I was left off the bus to Alabama this past Monday, and I have to admit I was pretty disappointed. The next one is August 12th, and I should be on it. Detention Center Unit #1 is split into two sides and is separated by a locked door that inmates often conversate through to inmates on the other side. The bus runs every other Monday, and typically is comprised of 13 inmates going to FPC Montgomery, 13 going to Talladega Satellite Camp, and 13 going to FCI Talladega Medium. We had 5 Maxwell inmates on our side, and they took 1 guy who came in from OKC the same day as myself. The other 4 were left behind, including myself. From what we heard, 12 inmates from the other side went to Maxwell this past Monday.
At the end of the day it looks like it is going to take me a couple days shy of 60 days to get there. They definitely make it difficult. I am hoping it is going to be as good as everyone says it is, because I definitely would love to finish my time there. I would love to avoid having to go through transit again. Our side had remained pretty empty until today when a bunch of inmates came in from Tallahassee which really filled up our half. There was an inmate here from Chicago who just left this past Tuesday to go to FCI Fort Dix Low. He was a barber in the streets, so I had him cut my hair and trim/line out my beard late last week. I was hoping that would last until I got to Maxwell, but it looks like I am going to need one more haircut and trim before I go, a beard trim at the very least. That was my first haircut since the first week of June, so my hair was getting very long. I had an inmate trim my beard with a straight razor a couple times at OKC, but it was nothing spectacular. This dude from Chicago did a really good job. We had to ask the CO to grab the clippers from the half of the unit next door because the clippers on our side had no guards.
As far as lockdowns, I was going to post another daily update, but I decided to stop that. I got to thinking anyone reading this gets the picture. We never really know when we will be let out of our cells and that is extremely frustrating because we cannot get into any routine. For example, we were locked down from this past Tuesday through this morning (Thursday morning). Sometimes we get out Wednesday evenings but other times we do not. Tuesday evening we didn’t get let out because my neighbor in cell 147 pissed off the officers during 4:00PM count. One of the officers was sure to knock on my window, after the argument, and let me know we were not coming out because of the retard in the cell next to me.
I have been reading a lot of David Baldacci novels and I read “Heat 2” by Michael Mann. Heat 2 is the sequel to the motion picture Heat 1 and is only in book form as of right now. The movie has yet to start filming but has been announced. The book is simply fantastic, and is a combination prequel/sequel and takes off right where the movie left off with Val Kilmer’s character making eye contact with his wife on a balcony holding their son.
That is about all for now.
